Being an Effective Greeter also means you get to strut your stuff!
The week prior to your scheduled date as a “Guest Speaker” all PEN members are required to serve as a “Greeter.”
(see when you're on the speaker schedule - .pdf)
This is a great opportunity to get to know each PEN member on a one-on-one basis as they arrive for that week’s meeting. You will welcome existing members as they arrive and you will also prepare a name tag for any newly invited guests.
Greeting is an ideal time to give a each and every member a personal message from your company and show how approachable you are. Many of our greeters set up a display to educate arriving members about their business. It's also an excellent opportunity to distribute promotional items that you may have.
When the time comes for you to greet, make sure that you
- Arrive at Claim Jumper no later than 7:15am
Make sure you are there on time! Often guests will arrive early and we need you to be there to greet them. Also, many regular members arrive early and you won't want to miss the opportunity to connect.
- Ensure the greeting table is properly set up
The table should already have the basics set up by our Sgt. at Arms, however, you'll want to make sure everything is in order and that your displays and promotional items are set up to impress your fellow members.
- Warmly welcome members and guests alike
You're likely to be the 1st person a PEN member speaks to that morning. Start their day off right and get them enthused about the meeting.
For guests, you may end up being a key reason they join. How a stranger is first welcomed to a meeting could make all the difference!
